Sthala Purana
Ahobilam is traditionally revered as the earthly place where Lord Vishnu manifested as Narasimha to protect Prahlada and destroy Hiranyakashipu. The Ugra Stambham above Upper Ahobilam is identified in Kshetra tradition with the pillar from which the Lord emerged. The surrounding Nallamala hills preserve the Nava Narasimha shrines, each worshipping a distinct aspect of the Lord.
Because the central tradition concerns the Narasimha Avatara itself—not merely a later appearance to a devotee—Ahobilam is placed in Part I. It also overlaps with Part III because the Ahobila Narasimha of the principal cave shrine is traditionally regarded as Svayam-vyakta/Swayambhu.
