Sthala Purana Lord Narasimha appeared here in a serene Yoga Narasimha form to bless Sage Vishwamitra and other rishis performing penance. It is believed that worshipping Narasimha here for 24 minutes (one muhurtam) grants liberation from sins and fulfills desires. The hill shrine is considered one of the most powerful Narasimha kshetras in Tamil Nadu.
