Sthala Purana
Nrusinghanath lies at the foot of the sacred Gandhamardhan Hills. Its distinctive local tradition tells of Musika Daitya, an asura who assumed the form of a mouse. The Lord took the form known as Marjara Keshari, a feline manifestation, and pursued the demon into the hill.
The present temple is associated with the fifteenth-century ruler Baijal Dev, while the sacred importance of Gandhamardhan is regarded as much older. Narasimha Chaturdashi draws large numbers of pilgrims to this important western Odisha Kshetra.
