Sthala Purana Jabali Maharishi performed severe tapas in the forest at Padalathri seeking Narasimha's darshana. According to the temple's sthala purana, after slaying Hiranyakashipu the Lord appeared before Jabali in His Ugra Narasimha form, with three eyes.
The temple legend narrates that Lord Narasimha appeared here in a fierce form to destroy evil forces. The name Padalathri means “Red Hill,” referring to the reddish hue of the hill where the temple stands. It is believed that sages performed penance here, and Lord Narasimha manifested to bless them.
