Sthala Purana
Joshimath's Narsingh Temple is closely connected with Sri Badrinath. During the winter season, when Badrinath becomes inaccessible, the sacred worship tradition shifts to Joshimath, making Narsingh Temple one of the most important winter pilgrimage centres in the Badri region.
A famous local tradition concerns the gradually thinning arm of the Narasimha murti. When it finally separates, Jaya and Vijaya mountains are believed to close the present route to Badrinath, after which the Lord will be worshipped at Bhavishya Badri.
