Sthala Purana
The Narasimha temple at Narsinghpur is central to the identity of the city. The district administration records that the temple was constructed in the eighteenth century by Jat Sardars and that the settlement came to be known by the Lord's name.
The fact that Narasimha gave his name to an entire city and district demonstrates the enduring regional importance of the temple even apart from its architectural history.
