Sthala Purana
The sacred Vishnupad precinct at Gaya contains an old Narasimha shrine that forms part of the city's ancient Vaishnava landscape. Archaeological and inscriptional evidence connects Narasimha worship here with the Pala period, including records from around the eleventh century.
Gaya is best known for Vishnupad and Pitru rites, but the Narasimha shrine demonstrates the much broader Vaishnava history of this celebrated pilgrimage city.
