Sthala Purana
The shrine at Matsyagiri is revered as one of the sacred Narasimha kshetras in Andhra Pradesh. Lord Narasimha manifested here after the Matsya avatara, blessing devotees with his darshan as Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy. The hill itself is considered holy, with sages believed to have performed penance here. The temple is associated with protection from evil forces and fulfillment of family wishes. Matsyagiri tradition says Narasimha protected sages performing tapas and remained at the Kshetra in a self-manifested Saligrama form.
