Sthala Purana
SWAYAMBHU SRI MUTTAGI LAKSHMI NARASIMHA SWAMY Muttagi preserves a tradition in which Narasimha manifested in association with a sacred Ashwattha/Banyan tree after an earlier temple tradition had been disrupted.
The living-tree and Saligrama tradition gives the shrine its distinctive Vriksharoopi character
