Sthala Purana Karpara Maharishi performed tapas on the banks of the Krishna seeking Sri Hari. Narasimha appeared before him and offered a boon. The Maharishi asked only that the Lord remain there permanently for worship. The Kshetra also preserves a distinctive Vriksharoopi tradition in which the sacred Ashwattha/tree presence is revered together with Narasimha worship.
