Sthala Purana
Nira Narsingpur stands at the sacred confluence of the Nira and Bhima rivers. The Kshetra tradition strongly connects the site with Bhakta Prahlada and ancient Narasimha worship. Several sacred tirthas and subsidiary traditions surround the temple complex.
The temple is especially important within the Madhwa religious tradition, and Narasimha is the Kuladevata of many families in Maharashtra and neighbouring regions. The location at the river confluence gives the Kshetra both ritual and pilgrimage significance.
