Sthala Purana
At the hill shrine of Mangalagiri, Narasimha is worshipped not as a conventional full anthropomorphic image but principally through the Lord's open mouth, regarded in temple tradition as Swayambhu.
Panakam, jaggery water, is offered into the mouth, giving the deity the name Panakala Narasimha.
