Without Shikaa or Chandike, can one perform any karma (ritual)?
Pt. Shri. Vedavyasacharya
General
Answer from Shastra
A text called Smrityartha Sagara explains:
๐ A Brahmana should always:
- Wear the Yajnopavita (sacred thread)
- Keep the Shikha properly tied
Important Meaning
- If a person performs rituals without Yajnopavita and Shikha,
๐ those actions become fruitless (no result) - To tie the knot (Chandike),
๐ Shikha must be present
Practical Understanding
๐ One should at least maintain a proper Shikha
๐ It should be sufficient to tie (knot)
๐ Without it, rituals lose their value
Conclusion
๐ Always wear Yajnopavita
๐ Always keep Shikha tied properly
๐ Otherwise, rituals may become ineffective
