What is the meaning of ‘Panchārdrō Bhojanam Charet’?

Pt. Shri. Vedavyasacharya

General

The Padma Purana says: “Panchardro Bhojanam Charet.”

This means that we should eat only after washing five parts of our body.

These five parts are:

Both hands

Both feet

Face

So, before eating, we must wash our hands, feet, and face properly, and then begin our meal.

The scripture also says:
“Panchardrakasthu Bhunjana, Shatam Varshani Jeevati.”
This means that a person who eats in this way will live a long life, up to 100 years.

In simple words:
👉 Wash hands, feet, and face before eating
👉 It keeps us clean and healthy
👉 It also brings long life according to shastra
