Pt. Shri. Vedavyasacharya
Pooja
It is said that the conch (Shankha) should not be placed directly on the ground while performing worship. A question is asked: What is the reason for this, and what is the scriptural authority?
The Shastra explains it in this way:
“Yastu shankham bhuvi sthapya pūjayen Madhusūdanam,
tasya pūjām na gṛhṇāti tasmāt pīṭham prakalpayet.”
This means that if someone places the conch on the ground and performs worship of the Lord, the Lord will not accept that worship.
Therefore, if we want the Lord to accept the worship we perform, we should not place the conch directly on the ground. Instead, we should arrange a proper pedestal (pīṭha) and place the conch on it. Only when the conch is kept on such a proper base and used in worship will the Lord accept that worship.
