Pt. Shri. Vedavyasacharya
Pooja
During worship, when offering flowers to God, we say “Pushpam samarpayāmi” or “Pushpāṇi samarpayāmi.” At this point, a question arises: Is it better to offer loose flowers or flowers tied together as a garland?
Both can certainly be offered, and there is no dispute about that. However, the question is which is considered superior.
A text called the Kapinjala Samhita explains this with the statement:
“Abandhebhyaḥ prasūnebhyaḥ baddha-mālā praśasyate.”
This means that offering tied flowers (a garland) is considered superior to offering loose flowers.
Therefore, the recommended practice is to collect the flowers, tie them together with a thread, sprinkle them with shankhodaka (sacred water from the conch), and then offer them to the Lord. This is considered the better and more proper method of offering flowers in worship.
