Pt. Shri. Vedavyasacharya
General
We often visit temples. In many temples, we see the Ashvattha tree (Peepal tree). When we see it, we usually offer namaskara and feel like praying, but many people do not know what prayer to say.
At that time, we should pray in this way:
“Āyur-balaṁ yaśo-varcho prajāḥ paśu-vasūni cha
brahma-jñānaṁ cha medhāṁ cha tvanno dehi vanaspate.”
This prayer means:
“O Ashvattha tree, please grant me long life, strength, fame, radiance, good progeny, cattle, wealth, knowledge of Brahman, and intelligence (discriminative wisdom).”
Therefore, everyone should memorize this shloka. When visiting a temple and offering prayers to the Ashvattha tree, one should recite this prayer. By doing so, it is believed that many auspicious blessings and prosperity will be obtained.
