Ingredients

Urad dal (black gram dal): 2 cup

Pepper: 1½ tablespoon

Instructions

Dry Roast the Dal:

  • In a pan, dry roast the urad dal over medium heat until it turns light golden and gives a nutty aroma. Stir continuously to avoid burning. This should take around 10-15 minutes.

Roast the Pepper:

  • In the same pan, slightly roast the pepper for about 2-5 minutes until fragrant.

Grind the Ingredients:

  • Let both the roasted urad dal and pepper cool down.
  • In a grinder, combine them and grind to a fine powder.

Store:

  • Store the urad dal pudi in an airtight container.

Usage:

You can use this Urad Dal Pudi in:

  • Kootu
  • Chithranna
  • Palidya
  • sambar
  • rasam
  • varity Rice
  • Or as a flavorful side dish with Idli or Dosa, mixed with ghee or oil.
