Rice uppit is another item which can be modified to suit Shakha Vrata.

Ingredients

Rice – 2 Cups 
Toor Dal – 1 Cup 
Pepper – 1 Teaspoon 
Cumin Seeds – 1 ½ Teaspoon 
Salt - As required 
Ghee – 3 Tablespoons 
Broken Urad Dal – 1 Tablespoon 
Sour Curd – 1 small cup (optional)

Instructions

  • Roast mildly Rice, Toor Dal, Pepper and Cumin Seeds (1 Tablespoon). 
  • Grind them all coarsely. Add a tablespoon Ghee in the Kadai and once the ghee is hot, put ½ Teaspoon of Cumin seeds and broken Urad Dal.
  • Fry them for few minutes and then add 2 cups of water and little bit of Sour Curd. 
  • When this liquid becomes hot, put salt and then add the Ground ingredients into this. 
  • Stir it carefully and do not let lumps form. Keep on stirring it regularly until the Rice and Dal mix is cooked. 
  • Add a spoon of ghee and remove the Kadai from the heat and serve it hot.
