1 liter water (divided into hot and cold water as needed)
A few saffron strands (optional)
½ tsp cardamom (pounded)
3-4 tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)
Juice of 2-3 limes (adjust to taste)
Prepare the saffron mixture:
Heat some water (about ½ cup) until it's hot, but not boiling. Add a few saffron strands and pounded cardamom to the hot water. Let it sit for a few minutes to infuse.
Alternatively, you can soak the saffron in a small amount of water for a few minutes without heating.
Add sugar:
Stir the sugar into the saffron-cardamom water until it dissolves completely.
Mix the lime juice:
Add cold water (remaining water) to the mixture and squeeze the lime juice into it. Stir well to combine.
Chill and serve:
Serve the Panaka chilled or with ice for a refreshing and tangy drink.
This traditional Panaka is a perfect drink for hot days, combining the freshness of lime with the subtle flavors of saffron and cardamom!
