Maatoda Bhaji is a heavy Curry made out of Banana Flower or Beans and a must taste Maharashtrian delicacy. it is time consuming but definitely worth the time.
Ingredients
Tur Dal - 1 cup
Red chilli - 10 Nos.
Asafoetida - 1/2 Teaspoon
Green chilli – 4 Nos.
Mustard Seeds - 1/2 Tablespoon
Curry Leaves - 1 strand
Banana flower -1 flower OR Beans-1/2 cup chopped
Oil - For frying
Salt - As per taste
Instructions
Soak the Tur Dal with red chillis for 3 hours or more drain and keep ready.
In a blender add the drained tur dal, red chillis, salt, asafoetida and green chillis and ground them coarsely and keep aside.
If you are using Banaa Flower, open each petel and take out flowery strand. Slit each one and remove the Pistil inside from them. The Pistil is not to be used for cooking. Now cut the Strand into very thin and small pieces and put them in salt water. If you are using Beans, just cut them into small pieces.
Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds and let them splutter.
Mix the coarsely ground mixture with curry leaves and banana flower OR chopped beans.
Now add the mixture to the seasoning (spluttered mustards & oil).
