Ingredients

1 cup Chana Dal (Bengal gram), soaked for at least 3-4 hours

½ cup Fresh Grated Coconut

2-3 tbsp Sugar (adjust to taste)

½ tsp Ground Cardamom (or to taste)

Salt to taste

1-2 Green Chilies (finely chopped, optional for heat)

1-2 tbsp Chopped Coriander Leaves (for garnish)

A squeeze of Lemon Juice (optional, for freshness)

Instructions

Prepare the Chana Dal:

  • Drain the soaked chana dal and rinse it under cold water. You can either use it raw for a crunchy texture or lightly steam it for a few minutes to soften.

Mix Ingredients:

  • In a mixing bowl, combine the drained chana dal with fresh grated coconut, sugar, and ground cardamom. If you’re adding green chilies, include them at this stage.

Season and Garnish:

  • Add salt to taste and mix well to combine all the ingredients. If desired, add a squeeze of lemon juice for a tangy flavor.
  • Garnish with chopped coriander leaves for added freshness and color.

Serving:

  • Serve the Chana Dal Koshimbir as a refreshing side dish or salad. It pairs well with rice and other Indian dishes.

Additional Tips:

  • Texture Preference: If you prefer a creamier consistency, you can blend a portion of the mixture with coconut before mixing it back in.
  • Variations: You can also add diced cucumber or grated carrots for added crunch and nutrition.
