Sri Vidyaratna Theertha is the thirty-fourth saint in the lineage following Sri Janardhana Theertha in the guru parampare of Krishnapura mutt.
He received his Ashrama from Sri Sudheendra Theertha of Puttige mutt and served as the head of the Peeta for a duration of 36 years.
Sri Vidyaratna Theertha was the son of the Poorvashrama sister of Sri Vidyapoorna Theertha. His parents were Smt. Kamalamma and Sri Ganapayya Tantri.
He was born on Vaishakha Amavasya in the year 1920 and underwent the Upanayana ceremony in his eighth year in Sode.
In his pre-monastic life, he learned English and Hindi. He studied Sudha and other Shastras under Sri Vidyapoorna Theertha.
Sri Vidyaratna Theertha took sanyasa from Sri Sudheendra Theertha of Puttige mutt and pursued higher education in Kashi for a few years.
He embarked on a pilgrimage to Badari thereafter. Sri Vidyaratna Theertha conducted his first paryaya in the year 1942 amidst wartime conditions, ensuring it was carried out in a grand manner.
During his first paryaya, he initiated the publication of the monthly magazine 'Srikrishnaparyayaprakasini.'
