Sri Vibudendra Tirtharu, whose Brindavana is located on the banks of the river Tamraparni in Tirunelveli, was indeed an exceptional scholar of Madhwa Shastra. He undertook a digvijaya (conquest of all directions) even in North India, facing significant challenges to Dwaita Siddhanta during his time.
Challenges from Advaita Parampare: During Sri Vibudendra Tirtharu's era, the Advaita parampare had a large following, posing a formidable challenge to Dwaita Siddhanta. Sri Vibudendra Tirtharu engaged in numerous theological battles, ultimately establishing the supremacy of Vishnu.
Philosophical Supremacy: Sri Vibudendra Tirtharu's greatness as a philosopher is evident from his illustrious lineage of disciples, including Jitamitra Tirtharu, Sripadarajaru, and others. Sripadarajaru, in turn, contributed significantly to the advancement of Madhwa philosophy by nurturing many stalwarts.
Dream of Shodasha Bahu Narasimha Devaru: The worship of Shodasha Bahu Narasimha Devaru at Sri Rayara Mutt traces back to a dream experienced by Sri Vibudendra Tirtharu. While worshipping Narasimha Devaru at Ahobala, he dreamt of Narasimha Devaru with sixteen hands on the riverbanks, which manifested the following day. This divine experience led to the installation of the same vigraha at Rayara Mutt, where it continues to be worshipped.
Royal Patronage: The Vijayanagar Kings generously donated lands at various locations to Sri Vibudendra Tirtharu, highlighting his esteemed position and influence.
Role as Vidyagurugalu: Sri Vibudendra Tirtharu served as the vidyagurugalu (spiritual teacher) of Sri Sripadarajaru, who later became a prominent figure in Madhwa philosophy.
Sripadarajaru's Title: Sri Raghunatha Tirtharu bestowed the title of Sripadarajaru upon Lakshminaraayana Muni during the same period. Initially known as Sri Vibudendra Tirtha Mutt, the mutt came to be called Rayara Mutt following the advent of Sri Raghavendra Swamigalu.
Aradhana Celebrations: The Aradhana celebrations of Sri Vibudendra Tirtharu are conducted with grand preparations at Tirunelveli every year, commemorating his significant contributions to Dwaita Siddhanta and Madhwa philosophy.
