He learned religious scriptures from Sri Madhwacharya and traveled with him. Sri Madhwacharya gave him a statue of Lord Vittala to worship.
According to Madhwa Vijaya, during a journey through a forest, bandits attacked the group. Sri Madhwacharya told one of his students to handle them. The student scared the bandits away with his strength and courage.
Sri Narayana Pandita, the author of Madhwa Vijaya, wrote in Bhavaprakashika that the student was Sri Upendra tIrtha. He was strong, intelligent, and knowledgeable.
Sri Upendra tIrtha worshipped Lord Anantasana and Lord Krishna of Udupi for many years. He taught scriptures to his students, blessed his devotees, and appointed Sri Kavindra Theertha as his successor before going on a pilgrimage.
