He was the younger son of Shri Sujnanendra Tirtharu, who served as the 28th pontiff in the parampare. He was renowned as a great scholar.
During his tenure, a severe famine known as 'Dhatu-Eshwara' struck the Mysore region, affecting people including those in Nanjangud.
Witnessing the distress of the people, the swamiji provided food for the people of Nanjangud for an entire year from the resources of the maTa, thus rescuing them from hunger.
His spiritual prowess led to abundant rainfall later, bringing joy to everyone.
As his time on earth came to an end, he appointed his nephew, the son of his elder brother from his pre-monastic life, Rajagopalacharya, as his successor, bestowing upon him the title of Suprajnendra Tirtharu.
