Sri Sooreendra Theertharu is the son of Rayara's elder brother in his previous life, Sri Venkatanarayanacharyaru. Venkatanarayanacharyaru had four sons who later became pontiffs of the Rayara Mutt lineage after Rayaru. They are Sri Yogeendra Theertharu (also known as Venkanna), Sri Sooreendra Theertharu (also known as Vasudevacharya), Sri Sumatheendra Theertharu (also known as Muddu Venkatakrishna), and Sri Upendra Theertharu (also known as Vijayendra).
Rayaru instructed Sri Yogeendra Theertharu, who is also the son of Venkatanarayanacharyaru, to pass on the ashrama to Vasudevacharya. Vasudevacharya was the elder brother of Sri Yogeendra Theertharu in their previous life.
When Sri Sooreendra Theertharu was ready to appoint his successor, he chose another of his elder brothers from their previous life. Therefore, Sri Yogeendra Theertharu, Sri Sooreendra Theertharu, and Sri Sumatheendra Theertharu were all brothers.
They were also the grandsons of Rayaru's elder brother from his previous life. All three were direct disciples of Rayaru, and it is believed that Rayaru instructed them to adorn the Pitha (seat of pontiff) in this specific order.
