While selecting dates to perform good things, priority should be given to the Tithi or Star or Day?

Pt Sri Pranesh Achar (Ananda Rangan)

General

For an auspicious act, tithi, karaṇa, nakshatra, vāra, and yoga should all be favorable. It is not enough if only one factor is good.

There is a saying: “Tithi-karaṇa-muhūrta-nakshatra-sampadastu”, which means that all these elements must be in harmony.

For example, when we eat a meal, we do not say the food was good if only one dish tasted good. Only when all items are good do we say the meal was good. In the same way, it is not enough if only the tithi is good, or only the nakshatra or day is good.

All factors—tithi, karaṇa, nakshatra, yoga, and day—must be auspicious together. That is why we consult the Panchānga.

Such days, when everything aligns well, are few. Therefore, auspicious acts should not be performed on any random day. One should consult someone knowledgeable in the Panchānga and choose a proper muhūrta before performing any auspicious ritual.
