Pt Sri Pranesh Achar (Ananda Rangan)
General
The kankana is tied as a symbol of dīkṣā (a sacred resolve). By accepting the kankana from elders, one takes a vow that the vrata or ritual will be properly observed.
The kankana should be worn until the completion of the vrata or ceremony. Once the ritual is completed, the procedure mentioned in that vrata should be followed. Generally, after the concluding or uttara pūjā, the kankana may be respectfully removed and immersed (visarjana).
In some families, based on tradition, the kankana is worn for one day, three days, or five days. If such a family custom exists, it may be followed accordingly.
