Pt. Shri. Vedavyasacharya
General
A question is asked: Should the naivedya of Vayu Deva be accepted or not? If it should be accepted, what is the scriptural authority for it?
The Vamana Purana gives the following explanation:
“Pavitram pavamānasya bhukta-śeṣaṁ jagad-guroḥ
bhuñjīta bhakti-bhāvena bhakti-jñāna vivardhanam.
Vāyu-bhukta naivedyaṁ na grāhyam iti yo vadet
sa bhuktvā narakān ghorān caṇḍālo bhuvi jāyate.”
This means that the naivedya that has been accepted by Vayu Deva is extremely sacred. It is said to increase devotion and spiritual knowledge in a person. Therefore, it should be received with great faith and devotion.
If someone says that the naivedya offered to Vayu Deva should not be accepted, or finds fault with it, such a person is said to suffer severe punishments in hell and later be born on earth as a chandala (outcaste).
Therefore, according to this teaching, the naivedya or teertha associated with Vayu Deva should be accepted with reverence, faith, and devotion.
