After performing Shraddha, there is often confusion about what to do with the pindas (rice balls). Some suggest feeding them to cows, some say to put them in fire, and others say to immerse them in water.
The scriptures clarify this with the verse:
“Pindam stu go aja viprebhyo dadyat agnau jalepiva. Uttamam gatimanvichchan ghoshunityam prayachchhati.”
Meaning: One who wishes for ultimate liberation should offer the pindas to cows, goats, or Brahmins, or place them in fire or water.
Among all methods, feeding the pindas to cows is considered the best, as it gives the ancestors greater satisfaction and brings more spiritual benefit.
