Varaha Jayanthi

Varaha Jayanthi

Lord Vishnu, in his incarnation as Lord Varaha, took the form of a boar to save the Earth from Hiranyaksha, a powerful demon who had dragged the Earth to the depths of the sea. Lord Varaha killed the demon and used his tusks to lift the Earth out of the ocean.

Varaha is the Lord of the Land and is the third incarnation of Lord Vishnu. During the Swayambhuva Manvantra period, as life on Earth evolved, the Earth moved off its axis to a different angle. The half-boar, half-human Varaha avatar was formed by Brahma following Lord Vishnu's instructions. While Varaha was trying to restore the Earth to its axis, Hiranyaksha attempted to stop him. Varaha then defeated Hiranyaksha.

It is believed that worshipping Lord Varaha brings all kinds of happiness to the devotee, including health, wealth, and land. This day is observed with rituals on the third day (Tritiya Tithi) of the month of Bhadrapada (according to the Hindu calendar) in Shukla Paksha.
