Swarnagouri Vrata is a sacred Hindu ritual performed by women, especially in South India, to worship Goddess Gauri (Parvati Devi) for marital happiness, family well-being, and prosperity.
“Swarnagouri” means Golden Gauri, a special form of Parvati Devi who is worshipped with golden-colored decorations or idols.
The vrata is usually observed a day before Ganesh Chaturthi, during the Shukla Paksha Tritiya of the Bhadrapada month (August–September).
It is also known as Gowri Habba in Karnataka.
Women pray for a happy married life, good health, and the long life of their husband and children.
Unmarried girls also observe this to get a good husband.
A clay or metal idol of Goddess Gauri is decorated and worshipped.
The idol is adorned with turmeric, kumkum, saree, bangles, flowers, and golden ornaments (or symbolic yellow thread).
Special naivedya (food offering) like tambittu, kosambari, and sweets are prepared.
Married women are invited and given mangaladravya (haldi-kumkum, bangles, blouse pieces, fruits).
Devotees chant Gauri Ashtottara and other Gauri-related prayers.
