Shri Vadeendra Teertharu was the 22nd pontiff of Shri Raghavendra Math and the 5th in the lineage from Shri Raghavendra Swamiji. He served as the peetadhipati from 1728 to 1750. His guru was Shri Upendra Teertharu, and his shishya was Shri Vasudendra Teertharu. In his poorvashrama, he was known as Shri Srinivasacharya. His Aradhana is observed on Jyeshtha Shuddha Navami.
Shri Vadeendra Teertharu was the great-grandson of Shri Raghavendra Swamiji and is considered an avatara of Shri Brihaspati. He authored several scholarly works, among which Gurugunastavana is very famous. It is said that when he recited this stotra in front of Shri Raghavendra Swamiji's Brindavana, the Brindavana itself moved gently in approval.
When Shri Raghavendra Swamiji had decided to enter Brindavana, a devotee named Venkannapant had constructed a Brindavana, but Rayaru mentioned that it was not for him. He stated that the Brindavana was meant for the 5th yati after him in the lineage, who was none other than Shri Vadeendra Teertharu. Out of deep affection, Rayaru ensured that Vadeendra Teertharu’s Brindavana would be placed right next to his own.
