On Vaishaka Sukla Tritiya the Lord took avatar as Shri Parasurama. He was born to Jamadagni Maharishi and hie wife Renuka Devi.
Though one needs to perform Shaligrama Pooja daily, Vaishaka Shukla Tritiya should never be missed. It is not only Shri Parasurama Jayanthi but also Akshaya Trithiya Punya Kala on this day.
Sri Parashurama Jayanti is celebrated on Vaishakha Shukla Tritiya, marking the birth of Parashurama, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Known for carrying an axe (Parashu), Parashurama is also called Bhargavaraama. He was born to Jamadagni Rishi and Renuka Devi, and his life is filled with tales of devotion, strength, and justice.
Once, Renuka Devi was delayed in returning from the river after being momentarily distracted by a celestial sight. Jamadagni, angered by this, ordered his sons to kill their mother as punishment. Only Parashurama obeyed and killed his mother and brothers. Impressed by his son's obedience, Jamadagni offered Parashurama a boon. Parashurama requested that his family be brought back to life, showing his deep love for them. This event illustrates his unwavering devotion to fulfilling his father's commands.
Parashurama embarked on a mission to rid the world of evil Kshatriyas. This began after King Kartavirya Arjuna stole the divine cow, Kamadhenu, from Jamadagni's ashram. Parashurama defeated the king, but later, Kartavirya's sons killed Jamadagni. Enraged, Parashurama vowed to eliminate arrogant Kshatriya kings. He toured the earth 21 times, destroying unrighteous rulers and distributing their wealth to the Brahmanas.
After his conquests, Parashurama had no land left for himself. He threw his axe into the western sea, and the sea retreated to create land, now known as "Parashurama Kshetra." This region includes eight sacred places:
These sites are revered as "Parashurama Srishti."
Parashurama is also known as a Chiranjeevi (immortal) and a protector of righteousness, embodying obedience, strength, and justice.
