Shri Bidarahalli Srinivasa Teertharu was the son of Shri Krishnappayya, the younger brother of Shri Yadavaryaru and Shri Vedesha Teertharu. After his father passed away at a young age, Shri Yadavaryaru raised Srinivasacharyaru. He became a highly learned scholar and wrote many significant works.
Mantrakshate from Rayaru:
Once, during Chaturmasya, Shri Bidarahalli Srinivasacharyaru visited Sri Raghavendra Swamigalu. After the samsthana pooja, Rayaru invited him to partake in tirtha prasada. However, Srinivasacharyaru hesitated due to the tradition of Rayaru accepting mustard (sasive), which was offered by Kanakadasaru. As a follower of the Uttaradi Matha, Srinivasacharyaru believed consuming mustard would break his vratha. Seeing this, Rayaru instructed his disciples to serve him food without mustard. After the prasada, Rayaru gave him and Yadavaryaru mantrakshate.
When Srinivasacharyaru returned home, he noticed that the mantrakshate given to him had turned black, while Yadavaryaru’s mantrakshate remained red. Shri Yadavaryaru explained that this happened because he had refused mustard at Rayaru's matha. The next day, Srinivasacharyaru returned to Rayaru, apologized, and received tirtha prasada with mustard, followed by mantrakshate from Rayaru again.
Receiving the "Teertha" title:
On another occasion, Rayaru visited Bidarahalli and stayed with Srinivasacharyaru, who offered him hospitality. During his stay, Rayaru had the opportunity to read Srinivasacharyaru’s works and was greatly impressed by his scholarship and dedication. Though a householder, Srinivasacharyaru had made significant contributions to spreading knowledge. Rayaru, recognizing his greatness, bestowed upon him the title “Teertha,” renaming him as “Bidarahalli Srinivasa Teertha,” despite him not being a sanyasi.
