Naga Panchami

Naga Panchami (Garuda Panchami)

This day is known as Naga Panchami and Garuda Panchami. Some people worship a Garuda idol along with Nagara. Generally, on Panchami, most people perform pooja for Nagara as done on the previous day.

  • Instead of using turmeric, use a gajavasthram dipped in saffron water for the saffron aarti.
  • Replace raw sesame seeds with roasted sesame seeds for the Naivedya.
  • Other offerings remain the same as the first day.
  • No fasting is required on Panchami day.

Snake Pit Worship

People who worship the snake pit bring a handful of snake pit soil to their house and give it to everyone as prasadam. It is customary to apply this soil on the stomach, navel, and ears. This is mainly given to brothers.

Prayers and Rituals

Brothers and sisters should pray during the Naga Panchami Pooja for a long life and good health. The prayer should also include wishes for joy, love, and admiration without any grudges. Sisters should lovingly offer the soil and Nagapanchami Prasadam to their brothers and sisters. In return, brothers and sisters should give gifts to the sister as a token of love.
