Hanumath Jayanthi

Hanumath Jayanthi is celebrated on this day across Karnataka and other States.

Hanuman Jayanti, celebrated on the full moon day of the Chaitra month (March/April), marks the birth of Lord Hanuman, also known as the Vanara God. Hanuman is one of the most revered deities in Hinduism, celebrated for his immense strength, unwavering devotion to Lord Rama, and his role in the epic Ramayana. As the son of the Wind God (Pawan) and Anjani, he is often called "Pawanputra" and "Anjaneya." He is also known as Kesari Nandan, as his father was Kesari. Hanuman is symbolizing power, humility, and selfless service.

The celebrations of Hanuman Jayanti vary across different regions in India:

  1. North India: Hanuman Jayanti is most popularly celebrated on Chaitra Purnima, the full moon day in the Chaitra month. Temples hold special prayers and rituals, starting early in the morning before sunrise, as it is believed that Hanuman was born at sunrise. Devotees sing Hanuman Chalisa, recite his tales, and seek his blessings for strength and courage.
  2. Andhra Pradesh: In Andhra Pradesh, the celebration is unique and lasts for 41 days. It starts on Chaitra Purnima and concludes on the tenth day of Krishna Paksha in the Vaishakha month. During this period, devotees observe a 41-day "Deeksha," engaging in prayers, fasting, and rituals dedicated to Lord Hanuman. This extended devotion shows Hanuman's importance in this region.
  3. Tamil Nadu: Known as Hanumath Jayanthi, it is observed during the Margashirsha Amavasya, which typically falls in December or January on the Gregorian calendar. Devotees in Tamil Nadu visit temples, offer prayers, and conduct rituals to honor Hanuman's strength and devotion.
  4. Karnataka: In Karnataka, the day is called Hanuman Vratam and is observed on Shukla Paksha Trayodashi in the Margashirsha month. Devotees fast, worship Hanuman, and chant his praises, seeking his blessings for strength and protection.

Hanuman, known for his incredible physical and mental strength, is celebrated as the "Sankat Mochan" (one who removes obstacles) and is remembered in both good and bad times. His selfless devotion to Lord Rama is legendary, showing that true power lies in humility and service. On Hanuman Jayanti, devotees gather in temples, chant hymns like the Hari Vayu Stuti, Madhwanama etc, and participate in spiritual discourses to honor his life and teachings.
