Danvantari Jayanthi

Dhanvantari (Lord Narayana (Hari). is the direct avatar of the Supreme God (Paramathma), who appeared during the churning of the ocean (Samudra Mathana). Dhanvantari, in this form, appeared carrying Amrutha (nectar) during the Samudra Mathana.

According to the scriptures, Sushruta Samhita and Srimad Bhagwat, there is a mention of Lord Dhanvantari's birth. During the churning of the Milky Ocean, Lord Dhanvantari appeared holding a pot of nectar in his hand. He is believed to have been created to protect all living beings from illness, premature death, and grief. It is also believed that Lord Dhanvantari is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The word "Dhanvantari" means the destroyer of sorrows, with "Dhanu" in the word Dhanvantari signifying sorrow.

Dhanvantari appeared twice: once during the churning of the ocean (Samudra Mathana) on Bhadrapada Shukla Dwiteeya, in the form of Srihari, where he brought Amrutha. In this form, he was called Abja.

The second time, Dhanvantari appeared as the son of Dirghatama on Karthika Bahula Dwadashi. In this human form, he gave us the Ayurveda Samhita with its eight divisions. He learned Ayurveda from Sage Bharadhwaja. This was done to benefit the world and to bless the sage.

Dhanvantari is said to be the founder of Ayurveda. The name "Dhanvantari" means "remover of sins," referring to the belief that past sins cause disease. In his form as Dhanvantari, the Supreme God (Paramathma) removes diseases and worldly suffering.
