Sri Uttaradi Math is one of the prominent Madhwa Mathas established by Jagadguru Sriman Madhwacharya Moola Maha Samsthana. It is a revered spiritual institution with numerous branches across Bharata Khanda, dedicated to promoting spirituality, devotion, education, and community welfare.
Kanchipuram (Kanchi) is one of the Sapta Mokshapuri—the seven sacred cities believed to grant liberation (moksha)—as described in our scriptures. It is glorified as "Nagareshu Kanchi", signifying its supreme spiritual and cultural standing among cities. Located in Tamil Nadu, it is about 72 km from Chennai and 278 km from Bengaluru.
Kanchi is home to the Varadaraja Perumal Temple, dedicated to Sri Varadaraja Swamy, a divine manifestation of Bhagawan Vishnu. The temple is renowned for its rich historical, architectural, and spiritual heritage. Numerous festivals and sacred homas are held here. Two of the most important events celebrated at our Math in Kanchi are:
Sri Satyapoorna Teertha Aradhana Mahotsava
Sri Raghavendra Swamigala Aradhana
During the Annual Brahmotsavam, the Math organizes Annadana, Jnanakarya, and various cultural programs, attracting hundreds of devotees.
Sri Satyapoorna Teertharu, the 22nd pontiff of the Sri Uttaradi Matha Parampara and successor of Sri Satyabhinava Teertharu, made Kanchipuram his Seva Kshetra. He offered a precious diamond pendant (Satyapoorna Padaka) to Sri Varadaraja Swamy, which continues to adorn the deity even today.
The Kanchi branch of Sri Uttaradi Math has a glorious legacy spanning several centuries. Many Acharyas of the Guru Parampara have performed seva here. Stone inscriptions in the temple premises bear testimony to their presence.
The Matha houses:
The idol of Mukhyaprana Devaru
Mruthika Brindavanas of Sri Satyapoorna Teertharu and Sri Raghavendra Swamigalu
Utsava Murtis of Sri Bhoo Sameta Varadaraja Swamy
The Kanchi branch is also affectionately referred to as Satyapoorna Matha.
Atthi Varadar is a sacred wooden idol of Sri Varadaraja Swamy made from Atthi (fig) wood, immersed in the temple tank – Ananda Saras for decades and brought out once every 40 years for 48 days of darshan. The wood miraculously remains preserved underwater.
In 2019, Paramapoojya Sri Sri 1008 Satyatma Teertha Sripadangalavaru observed his 24th Chaturmasya at the Kanchipuram branch. This coincided with the rare emergence of Atthi Varadar for darshan after 40 years. Thousands of devotees were blessed with the darshana of:
Sri Moola Rama Devaru
Atthi Varadaraja Swamy
Gurugalu
The Matha offers well-maintained AC & Non-AC rooms for visiting devotees. Teerthaprasada is served regularly, and devotees are encouraged to make use of these services.
As one of the seven Moksha Puris, Kanchi is ideal for performing Tirtha Vidhi (Shraadha). The city is also home to several ancient temples, making it spiritually enriching for pilgrims.
The Varadaraja Perumal Temple Brahmotsavam is a grand annual event. During this time, Sri Uttaradi Math performs:
Annadana Seva
Jnana Yajnas
Devotional gatherings
This practice was established during the time of Sri Satyapoorna Teertharu and continues to be upheld with devotion.
