Shri Puthige Matha is one among the Ashta Mathas established by Shri Madhwacharya to worship Shri Krishna at Udupi. Shriman Madhwacharya, initiated one of his disciples, Shri Upendra Teertharu as the first pontiff of Shri Puthige Matha.
Shri Madhwacharya blessed Shri Upendra Teertharu with the Idol of Shri Panduranga Vittala Devaru.
