Shri Pejavar Matha is one among the Ashta Mathas established by Shri Madhwacharya to worship Shri Krishna at Udupi. Shriman Madhwacharya, initiated one of his disciples, Shri Adokshaja Teertharu as the first pontiff of Shri Pejavar Matha.
Shri Madhwacharya blessed Shri Adokshaja Teertharu with the Idol of Shri Vittala Devaru (“Aja Vittala”) along with the Idols of Shri Devi and Bhoo Devi. This difference in the Idol of this Vittala Devaru from other Vittala Idols is that this Vittala has one hand in the Hip.
The main branch of this Math is located in Pejavar Village of Udupi District.
