Śrī Vidyāpati Tīrtha was ordained the 26th Pīṭādhipati by Śrī Vidyānātha Tīrtha. The saint spent most of his sojourn at places situated on the banks of the Kāvĕrī river such as Tiruchy, Erode, Salem, Kumbhakhoṇa etc. He contributed significantly to growing the adherents of Ācārya Madhva’s faith in the current state of Tamilnadu.
The saint was an outstanding scholar and well-versed in Nyāya, Tarka and Mīmāmsa. He seems to have engaged in philosophical debates, won-over rivals and firmly established the principles of his school of thought, as can be evinced from his prayer. It is understood from tradition that the Marāṭha kings of Thanjavur patronized him and were regular recipients of his blessings.
After having adorned the Pīṭha for a decade, he attended Haripāda at Kumbhakoṇa. His Vṛndāvana is located in the same complex that houses the Vṛndāvana of his Guru Vidyānātha Tīrtha as well his parama guru Śrī Jagannātha Tīrtha, in the middle of Kumbhakoṇa town.
