Previous (Shri Vidyanidhi Teertharu) | Next (Shri Raghavendra Teertharu)
He is the thirteenth seer in the lineage of the matha. Shri Suresha Teertha is a luminary who abided by every word of the shastric order that states that the body of a brahmin is meant for rigorous asceticism but not for the enjoyment of trifle desires. He spent his life observing difficult vows such as the kaashtamauna (refraining from speech including communication through sign language).
The two month paryaya tenure at Udupi was extended to a period of two years by Shri Vadiraja Gurusaarvabhouma. The two year paryaya cycle was begun with Palimaru Matha in 1522 A.D. The peetadhipati of Palimaru Matha at the time was Shri Suresha Teertha. In this way, Sri Suresha Teertha is credited with the eminence of being the first to ascend the sarvajna peeta under the two year paryaya cycle.
He spent a major part of his life at the matha in the village. Thus, serving as peetadhipati for 16 years, serving Lord Ramachandra, in Shalivahana shaka 1452 (1539 A.D.) Virodhi samvatsara jyeshta bahula panchami, he attained vrindavana at Palimaru Matha.
