Shri Sujanendra Tirtharu, a disciple of Sri Subodhendra Tirtharu and Sri Vittalopadyaya, was renowned for his eloquence and scholarship. He regularly visited Nanjangud to have darshan of Lord Shrikantheshwara and to take a holy dip in the river Kapila. However, some pundits objected to his frequent visits to a Shaivagama temple. The following day, Swamiji skillfully interpreted Vedic quotations related to Lord Rudra in favor of Lord Narayana, leaving the pundits astounded by his profound scholarship and understanding of Tantrasaragama and Veda panditya.

During the reign of Mummadi Krishna Raja Wadayar, a scholar named Sri Thrayambaka Shastri from Pune, known as "Abhinava Bhoja," came to the king's palace for a debate. None could challenge him until the king, who had heard of Sri Sujanendra Tirtharu, brought the scholar to Nanjangud for a debate. Although the Pune pandit initially dominated the debate, Sri Sujanendra Tirtharu eventually emerged victorious, impressing the king.

In appreciation of Sri Sujanendra Tirtharu's victory, the king gifted villages and made arrangements for the maintenance of the mutt. The king's letters expressing concern for the mutt's welfare are still preserved there. After the passing of his guru Sri Subodhendra Tirtharu, Sri Sujanendra Tirtharu lived for only a year more, eventually attaining the Lotus feet of Lord Hari on the eighth day of Kartheeka Bahula in Durmukhi Samvatsara. Sri Sujanendra Tirtharu arranged for the installation of the Brindavans of both Sri Subodhendra and himself together.
