Shri Upendra Teeertharu was a great scholar who directly studied under Rayaru himself. He was one of the grandsons of Rayaru's Poorvashrama brother. His brothers were Shri Yogindra Tirtharu, Shri Surindra Tirtharu, Shri Sumatindra Tirtharu, and Shri Munindra Tirtharu.
Shri Yogindra Tirtharu and Shri Surindra Tirtharu had earlier ascended the pita as the 17th and 18th pontiffs in the parampare, respectively. Shri Munindra Tirtharu remained a Bidi Sanyasi (a monk who has not fully renounced the world). All of them have Brindavanas at Srirangam, except for Shri Surindra Tirtharu.
Margashira Bahula Ashtami is the Aradhane (commemoration day) of Shri Upendra Tirtharu.
