Shri Ramachandra Teertharu was a great exponent of Dwaitha Vedanta. He spent a long time in Shrirangapatnam and surrounding areas propagating the Madhva Philosophy.
He ordained one of his disciples Kambaluri Narasimhacharya to Sanyasa with a view of installing him as Pontiff after his lifetime. He named him as Shri Vibhudendra Teertharu.
During the final days, Shri Ramachandra Teertharu was in Yaragol and Shri Vibhudendra Teertharu was on Sanchara.
There are many versions on the events that took place after Shri Ramachandra Teertharu attained Hari pada. Unfortunately, the Math split into two groups. Shri Vidyanidhi Teertharu became the Pontiff to head the Uttaradi Math.
Shri Vibhudendra Teertharu became the pontiff of the Math with its base in Kumbakonam, which was popularly referred as Kumbakonam Math those days. Sri Raghavendra Swamy Teertharu who comes from this lineage became so popularly and since then the math is widely known as Sri Raghavendra Swamy math.
Sri Ramachandra Teertharu’s Moola Brindavana is located in Yaragol.
